Western Façade of the Basilica of San Marco, Venice, Italy

Continuing Display

Millennium Gallery

John Wharlton Bunney’s (1828 -1882) striking painting of Venice’s Basilica of San Marco is one of the highlights of the Guild of St George’s Ruskin Collection.

Made between 1877 and 1882, the painting took 600 mornings to complete because Wharlton Bunney was determined to observe and capture every detail of the Basilica’s western front.
