From realistic paintings to abstract installations and contemporary photography, the works in these displays show a range of responses to landscape. They prompt us to think, dream and reflect on our relationship with landscape and the natural world.
Returning favourites including JMW Turner’s Opening of the Vintage at Macon (around 1803) can be seen on display alongside works including Fay Godwin’s atmospheric Yorkshire photographic series Remains of Elmet (1979).
Visitors will also see Duet for Duo (2015) by Haroon Mirza, a new acquisition which joins the city’s collection through the generosity of the artist and facilitated by the Contemporary Art Society.
These displays are part of a five-year programme of change and redisplay at the Graves Gallery generously supported by the Ampersand Foundation.
