Schools

The Graves Gallery is situated above the Central Library in the centre of Sheffield, close to the Millennium Gallery and the Crucible and Lyceum Theatres.

Plan your journey to Graves Gallery using the Traveline website. 

By foot
The gallery is 10-minute walk from the train station. Leave the station and walk up the hill by Sheffield Hallam University. Cross Arundel Gate and go up the pedestrian walkway to Surrey Street.

By road
From the M1 exit at junction 33 and follow signs to the city centre.

Parking
The nearest NCP car park is by the Crucible Theatre and is reached from Arundel Gate. Visitors using the Q Park car park on Charles Street are able to claim 50% off the price of their parking thanks to a special deal we have with Q Park. Please ask our front of house staff for a discount voucher at the Graves Gallery or the Millennium Gallery.

Limited disabled parking spaces are available for blue badge holders in Surrey Street, just outside the main entrance to the Library and Graves Gallery.

Women’s toilets are located just outside the entrance to the Gallery, men’s toilets are located just inside. Disabled access toilets are available via the Library.

Unfortunately there are no baby changing facilities at the Graves Gallery.

The Gallery currently has no cloakroom, lockers, or buggy storage.

At the Graves Gallery shop, you’ll find curated product ranges inspired by the displays.

Browse prints, postcards and books relating to the city’s art collection and our current exhibitions, as well as artists materials and gift ideas.

The nearest café is Ambulo, just over the road at the Millennium Gallery.

Food and drink is not permitted in the gallery.

Sheffield Museums provides a welcoming and supportive environment for breastfeeding.

Getting Around

  • Limited accessible parking spaces are available for blue badge holders in Surrey Street, just outside the main entrance to the Library and Graves Gallery
  • We welcome Assistance Dogs to the Graves Gallery.
  • The Graves Gallery was built in the 1930s and is now a Grade II listed building. As such, access for people with limited mobility is not as good as we would like. Improving access is an important part of our long-term plans for the building.
  • There are 3 flights of stairs from the main Library to the Graves Gallery entrance. The Gallery itself is step free. 
  • Wheelchair users and people with prams/buggies are able to access the Library and Graves Gallery on Arundel Gate, where the Library porters will assist you in accessing the Gallery on the 5th floor via the lift.
  • A lift is available in the main library foyer, however there are a number of steps up from street level.
  • There are lower level interactives currently located in Galleries 2&3, and Gallery 8.
  • Bench seating is available in all galleries and folding stools are available on request.

Sounds & Environment

  • There is currently audio playing in Galleries 2&3 and Gallery 8.
  • There is currently a work on display in Gallery 6 which includes flashing lights and loud sounds.

Exploring the Gallery 

  • You’ll find captioning on our AV / films throughout the gallery
  • Large print labels are available in all galleries

Accessible Toilets 

The nearest accessible toilet is at the Millennium Gallery, approx. 300m from the Graves Gallery. 

The nearest Changing Places Toilet is located at the Crucible Theatre
