We're looking for an innovative designer/design team to lead three in-depth design projects for local secondary schools.

We would particularly like to hear from designers with an interest in product, packaging and graphic design and also metalwork. We are looking for designers who are able to inspire young people, enabling them to learn about and engage with Sheffield’s industrial design heritage. We are keen to work with designers from different areas of the design industry – you don’t have to work with metal!

Design Lab Sheffield is a legacy project from the successful Design Lab Nation, an element of the V&A’s National Schools Programme. We are grateful to the ongoing support of the V&A. The 2022-23 Design Lab Sheffield programme is generously supported by Durham Duplex.

There is a fee of £6,500 available for this work including planning and delivery time. In addition, expenses (either petrol money or taxi charges), are available to cover transport to and from the Sheffield schools involved in the project. There is a separate budget available for materials.

Project planning and delivery will run from November 2022 to July 2023. We will work with three schools in total during this time. Each school will have four full day workshops or equivalent. Each project will include approximately 25-30 students, aged 11-16 (Key Stages 3 /4) and their teachers.
