Sheffield Museums was established in 2021, uniting Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust and Museums Sheffield.

We’re responsible for running six of the city’s leading museums, galleries, and historic sites and caring for the city’s collections.

Our legacy trusts

Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust

Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust was established in 1994. It was responsible for the operation of Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, Kelham Island Museum and Shepherd Wheel Workshop and caring for the city’s collections of industrial history.

Museums Sheffield

Museums Sheffield was established in 1998 and was responsible for the operation of the Graves Gallery, Millennium Gallery and Weston Park Museum.  It cared for the city’s collections of art, archaeology, decorative metalwork, natural science, social history and world cultures and was custodian of the Guild of St George’s Ruskin Collection.

Prior to 1994 the six sites now cared for by Sheffield Museums were operated by Sheffield City Council.
