Turtle Soup Tureen

Continuing Display

Millennium Gallery

One of the highlights of the city’s Metalwork Collection, this skillfully-crafted soup tureen is made from Old Sheffield Plate and dates from around 1800.

Turtles are now a protected species, but at the beginning of the 1800s turtle soup was an extremely popular first course at dinner for the fashionable and wealthy.
