Tom Parkin’s Workshop

Continuing Display

Kelham Island Museum

This is a reconstruction of a Tom Parkin’s cutler’s workshop. The workshop was originally on Rockingham Lane, Sheffield, where it was in use until 1968.

Here the cutler would receive the ground blades, for which they’d make and fit handles before giving the knife its final finish. This workshop reflects the traditional and simple technology that was used by the cutlery trade before mass production methods.
